On December 16, 2022, the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Preah Vihear conducted a commercial demonstration in Rovieng district as part of MetKasekor Model. The commercial demonstration showcased machineries, equipment, and crop seeds that were applicable for practicing conservation agriculture. The demonstration was presided by Mr. Srun Borin, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Preah Vihear. Representatives from relevant institutions such as the Department of Extension of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DEAFF), the Department of Agricultural Engineering (DAEng), and as well as the Department of Agricultural Land Resource Management (DALRM) were also invited to be parts of the demonstration as they could use this occasion as an opportunity to explain to our small holder farmers and service providers how important and beneficial conservation agriculture is and how MetKasekor Model could play the role as an important key actor to guide them through the process of practicing agriculture that is resilient to climate change.
As MetKasekor Model is a model that opens the market for private sector to invest in conservation agriculture and sustainable intensification, companies from private sector such as Larano Workshop, SmartAgro, John Deere, Noeurn Workshop, Agricultural and Rural Development Bank, and a variety of agricultural cooperatives were also invited to the demonstration to showcase their products and engage themselves with our small holder farmers and service providers.
Having been introduced to conservation agriculture and having listened to the success stories of their fellow farmers who have already practiced conservation agriculture, our participated small holders were very impressed and keen in following the footsteps as it helps improving soil quality and increasing the production.
MetKasekor is an extension model that operates to scale up conservation agriculture practices to smallholder farmers by opening the market for private sector's investment. This will ultimately enable a bigger market for conservation agriculture, and at the same time led to the increase of productivity of small-holder farmers.
