Under the MetKasekor model, Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (PDAFF) will be responsible for the initial identification of and the training of farmers and service providers. PDAFF along with the private sector will select the early adopters and service providers to demonstrate the CA/SI inputs which includes cover crop, agroecological crop protection, integrated farming systems, and machinery technologies.

Capacity development of the technical support institutions

The capacity development of the technical support institutions will be done through provision of orientation and training on the operation of MetKasekor, after which the institutions will provide the trainings to the PDAFF staff.

Identifying early adopters/spokes

The uniqueness of MetKasekor is that it is built on a service provision demonstration model therefore the identification of early adopters or spokes become crucial as their field becomes a service demonstrations plot for other farmers when products are delivered.

Capacity development of PDAFF

Since the PDAFF has the mandate of providing extension service to smallholder farmer their capacity will be built on the MetKasekor model. PDAFF thus will help create the necessary awareness, demonstrate CASI that will pave the way for the private sector to promote inputs/machinery.

Working with the private sector

It is crucial to get private sector involved in order to ensure the sustainability of the model. The service demonstrations are an important platform for the private sector as it allows them to showcase and promote their products.
