“Rubber Plantation and Agricultural Economic Land Concession Companies to Promote Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Intensification in Cambodia” workshop with a presidency of H.E Minster Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Phnom Penh, On 20th September 2022, a dissemination workshop namely "Rubber Plantation and Agricultural Economic Land Concession Companies to Promote Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Intensification in Cambodia" was conducted by Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Intensification in Cambodia (CASIC) at Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) This workshop was honorably launched under the presidency by of His Excellency VENG SAKHON, Minister of MAFF and participated by Secretary of State and Under-Secretary of State of MAFF, Royal Government Delegation and some representatives from development partners and private sector.

On the presided occuation , H.E Minister Veng Sakhon was absolutely impressive on the progressing and achievement of CASIC. He mentioned that "This event is great opportunity for all stakeholders of Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Intensification (CA/SI) and especially the participation of CA/SI researcher and private sector such as rubber companies that came to share their results, knowledge, experiences, challenges and lesson learns together with the aim to expand the practice and success of CA/SI and Agroecology in Cambodia. CA/SI is considered as an essential role to increase the resistance of productive system of agriculture, maintaining and increasing the quality soil, and preventing soil erosion. Through the work of CASIC, 500 hectares of farmlands in 2019 were increased to 1393 hectares in 2020 and to 2000 hectares in 2021 and up to now the CA lands are existed and located in Rattanak Mundul district, Banan district, and Sangke in Battambang province, Sontuk district in Kompong Thom province, and Rovieng district in Preah Vihear province.
H.E Minister Veng Sakhon also made some recommendations during the workshop as follows:     CASIC should continue cooperating with any institutions affiliated with the MAFF in order to expand the practice of conservation and influence the agroecology approach in Cambodia.       All development projects or programs that received a land concession from the Royal Government of Cambodia must consider practicing CA/SI in order to improve the ecological system aligned with the 2022-2030 National Policy on Agricultural Development.       The Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (PDAFFs) should encourage the practice of conservation agriculture and sustainable intensification based on the initiative by development partners, private sector, and as well as agricultural cooperatives.
